It's the day after Halloween in 1988 when four young friends accidentally stumble into an intergalactic battle and find themselves inexplicably transported to the year 2019. When they come face-to-face with their adult selves, each girl discovers her own strengths as together they try to find a way back to the past while saving the world of the future.

one of the richer paper girls, KJ, is a Jewish girl from a fairly wealthy family. mac, a white girl, is jealous of this because her family is in poverty and lashes out with antisemitic quips like you'll probably have champagne later. KJ gets defensive about it and makes it very clear to mac that she should never say antisemitic things, and that even though she is rich she gets bullied for being Jewish school. this is the main conflict of their relationship so can be hard to watch
