Not used in a hateful way, Val says it casually throughout the film. Kevin uses it once with the hard R but is asking Val how many times he’s been called that.

Val and Kevin attempt a double suicide at the beginning of the film with handguns but back out. They also bring the guns to Kevin’s old psychiatrists office in an attempt to kill him but he is not there. Kevin and Val go to a gun range in the next scene. Later on in a convenience store Kevin uses the gun to threaten the clerk to give them medical supplies for Val’s ankle because he ignored them when the first walked in. Kevin tries to shoot his psychiatrist but fails because the safety is on, Val comes behind him and actually kills the doctor. Kevin shoots himself at the end.
