Some of the monsters feature body horror elements. Toe Jammer has toes all around its body, more so in its rare form. Rare and epic Thumpies have grotesque faces. Denchus have large mouths on top of their heads. Banjaw has a stomach mouth. Blarret and Gadzooks have three mouths each, and Whail has five. Knurv removes its eyes and pulls them back and forth while playing. Lots of monsters have extra eyes, sometimes in odd places.

Yes, but this is mainly relevant to the lore and not the gameplay. The Colossals sacrificed their souls to save the islands by infusing with them when a disaster occurred. It's the reason why the Natural Islands have faces. They are said to just be in a deep slumber, however.
