I would skip “Trial Day” if cat death is particularly upsetting to you. The cat doesn’t die, but the protagonist attempts to sacrifice her pet cat with a knife. She doesn’t succeed, but does make it bleed, and there’s a big lead up to the ritual.

In “Removal Order,” the protagonist’s mother’s four cats are released and presumed dead. One shows up toward the end and is then released again.

In “Carriers,” wild cats threaten the protagonist’s livestock. The protagonist traps one and intends to shoot it, but then she lets it go

In “Gracetown-Ghost Summer”: protagonist walks in on a pet dog’s funeral. The protagonist reflects on his pet rat’s death. I would skip “Trial Day” if cat death is particularly upsetting to you.
